Virtual tours are a fantastic way to boost engagement with your property listings and streamline your service, but the tech can be difficult to wrap your head around. We’ve broken down the pros and cons of two of the industry’s most popular cameras, the Matterport Pro 2 and the Insta360 One X, to help you decide which would suit your needs the best.
Matterport Pro 2
Specs:
Size: 230 x 260 x 110 mm
Weight: 3.5kg
Battery life: c. 8 hours’ continuous use
Image resolution: 134 megapixels
Accuracy: Within 1%
Pros:
The Matterport Pro 2 shoots high-quality, 3D images that really shine on websites, property listings and adverts. Showing luxury properties to their full potential, the Matterport Pro 2 gives clients an unrivalled virtual tour experience — take a look around our website to see what we mean. The device also benefits from seamless connectivity with Matterport’s processing software.
Cons:
Such a premium product doesn’t come cheap. At the time of writing this, the Matterport Pro 2 costs £2830, making it difficult to justify the coast of buying it outright. It is also less portable than the Insta360, although the impressive battery life makes up for the added inconvenience of carrying it around.
Insta360 One X
Specs:
Size: 115 x 48 x 28 mm
Weight: 115g
Battery life: 1 hour’s continuous use
Image resolution: 18 megapixels
Accuracy: Within 4-8%
Pros:
The Insta360 One X is a more affordable model, selling for £400 at the time of writing, and allows beginners and smaller-scale businesses to get a taste of the 3D tour experience. It is able to capture tours efficiently and will connect to Matterport software to render them. It is more portable and has some accessories (such as the invisible selfie stick) that make it the perfect travel companion.
Cons:
As with most things, the lower price tag does mean reduced capability. Property tours will be slightly less true-to-life and adverse lighting can render the camera completely unusable. The lower battery life also makes it impractical to conduct more than one tour at a time. Overall, it is a good place to start with virtual tours, but it might be less reliable in the long run.
In this case, then, the price points really do reflect quality levels. While the Insta360 One X is more affordable, the quality of the tour it produces might not make the saving worth it.
