How can you make a floor plan outside of Matterport?

One of the joys of creating a Virtual Tour for your property – whether you’re a letting agent looking to cut down the time it takes you to find renters, or an education provider looking to show off your state of the art campus – is the range of material one single scan can provide.

By walking through a property once, taking a 3D scan to create your Virtual Tour, you’re also capturing everything you need to leave with high-quality images of the space, accurate measurements, and hassle-free floor plans.

In today’s blog, we’re taking a look at two of the biggest names in virtual floor plan production: Matterport and CubiCasa. Which is the best fit for your company? Read on to find out!

Process

If you’re using Matterport’s software to create your Virtual Tours, the process for creating floor plans simultaneously is pretty straight forward. Simply scan your space as normal, upload your footage and request a schematic floor plan. Everything takes place within the same platform, which prevents you from having to juggle multiple tabs and logins for the creation of one property listing.

With CubiCasa, you’ll need to use their own app and native scanning technology, but they do say scanning a space with their app will only take 5 minutes. If you’re looking to create a floorplan without a 3D Virtual Tour, this option may appeal as you only need a smartphone to create the floorplans.

Turnaround

If you’re working in real estate in particular, you know that time really is of the essence – the quicker you can get your images, Virtual Tours and floor plans up onto your website, the better for you and your clients.

While the Matterport software is able to render Virtual Tours in moments, floorplans take a little longer. Depending on which subscription plan you’re on, floor plans will take between 6 hours and 48 hours to turn around.

CubiCasa, by contrast, offers a flat 24hr turnaround for all users.

Pricing

Matterport’s floor plans vary between $14.99 and $29.98 depending on the size of the space you’re scanning – you can see the exact breakdown here. If you’re not already using Matterport’s software, it’s important to note that you will need to pay for a membership on top of these discrete charges – ranging from $7.99 to $55 per month – which may not be a worthwhile commitment if you’re not using their wide range of other professional features.

CubiCasa takes a different approach, with no membership fee and a discrete charge of $34.90 per floor plan instead. Depending on your industry and the number of floor plans you would like to produce, this could be the more cost-efficient option.
